Wild
Forage.
A grain-free formula built for insulin-resistant, Cushing's, easy-keeper, and metabolic horses. Higher fiber, lower starch — and an NSC of just 6.5%. For the horses who can't tolerate concentrates but still deserve real nutrition.

Built For Metabolic Horses
Forage in a bag, not grain.
Most "low-starch" feeds still build on a grain base, then add fillers to bring numbers down. Wild Forage starts somewhere different: it has no whole grains at all. The base is hay pellets — alfalfa and timothy — supplemented with whole-food vitamins and minerals from rose hips, papaya, sunflower seeds, and spirulina.
The result: NSC of 6.5%. Sugar at 5%. Starch at 1.5%. Suitable for insulin-resistant horses, horses with EMS, Cushing's syndrome, PSSM1, and horses that tie up. Real nutrition for the horses who can't have what most feed bags contain.

Feeding Guide
How to feed.
Daily feeding amount in pounds, based on your horse's weight and workload. Never feed more than 5 lbs in any single feeding.
Hay should be fed at 1–2% of body weight daily. Wild Forage complements forage — it doesn't replace it.
Fresh water free-choice at all times. Unrefined salt (Redmond, Himalayan, grey sea) free-choice as well.
Transition gradually over 3–5 days. Start at half the target amount and increase as your horse adjusts.
Frequently Asked
Metabolic horses, honest answers.
Common questions about feeding Wild Forage to insulin-resistant, Cushing's, EMS, and PSSM horses. Our team answers feed questions personally.
Is this safe for insulin-resistant horses?
Yes. Wild Forage has an NSC of 6.5%, with sugar at 5% and dietary starch at just 1.5%. That's well below the 10% NSC threshold most vets recommend for insulin-resistant horses.
For severely IR horses or those with active laminitis, consult your vet before introducing any new feed. Most IR horses do well on 1–2 lbs per day split into two feedings.
Can I feed this to a horse with Cushing's, EMS, or PSSM1?
Yes to all three. Wild Forage is formulated specifically for the metabolic horse:
Cushing's (PPID): Low NSC keeps blood glucose stable. The whole-food ingredients support immune function, which is often compromised in PPID horses.
EMS: Same NSC benefits. Magnesium content (0.20% min) supports insulin sensitivity.
PSSM1: The low starch (1.5%) is critical for PSSM horses — high-starch grains can trigger episodes. Wild Forage avoids them entirely.
My horse ties up. Is this appropriate?
Yes — Wild Forage is recommended for horses prone to tying up. The low starch content (1.5%) avoids the trigger for tying-up episodes that high-grain diets can cause.
For active tying-up syndromes, work with your vet to design a complete diet. Wild Forage is one component, alongside selenium/vitamin E supplementation if your forage tests low in those.
What's the difference between Wild Forage and Wholefood?
Wholefood Horse Feed has whole oats as a primary ingredient and is designed for performance horses needing daily concentrate. NSC is higher (~24%).
Wild Forage has no whole grains. The base is hay pellets and chopped mixed hay. NSC is just 6.5%. It's built for horses who can't tolerate grain — metabolic conditions, easy keepers, off-grain horses.
If your horse needs energy for competition and tolerates grain fine, Wholefood. If your horse has any metabolic issue, Wild Forage.
Can senior horses eat Wild Forage?
Yes — it's appropriate for all life stages after weaning, including senior horses. The high fiber content (33% max) and easy chewability of hay pellets make it gentle on aging digestive systems.
For seniors with dental issues, soak the feed with warm water for 10–15 minutes before feeding. The hay pellets soften into a mash.
Can I feed this to other animals?
Yes. Wild Forage can be safely fed to donkeys, mules, zebras, goats, sheep, cattle, chickens, rabbits, and pigs. The whole-food formula is non-toxic to all common livestock species.
Adjust feeding amounts based on the animal's size and metabolic needs.
How do I transition my horse from grain-based feed?
Transition gradually over 3–5 days to avoid digestive upset. Replace 25% of the current feed with Wild Forage on day one, 50% on day two or three, 75% by day four, and 100% by day five.
If your horse is sensitive or has a history of colic, extend the transition to 7–10 days. Monitor manure consistency throughout.
Do I need to add a vitamin or mineral supplement?
Most horses on Wild Forage plus quality forage and free-choice unrefined salt do not need additional supplementation. The whole-food formula provides a complete mineral profile.
Common exceptions: Selenium and vitamin E if your region has selenium-poor soil. Magnesium for very metabolic horses. Work with your vet on hay analysis to know what your forage is missing.
